Munduruku leaders, such as Alessandra Korap, realize there is something wrong with the health of their people. They invite doctors and researchers to investigate if they are contaminated by mercury. The neurologist Erik Jennings and the researchers from Fiocruz reach a diagnosis that reveals the high level of contamination by this heavy metal, traditionally associated with gold digging and the destruction of the forest. However, the doctors face the opposition of the prospectors, and even that of the Brazilian government, in order to present the results to the Mundurukus. The history of Minamata, in Japan, is remembered by the population who suffered serious damage to the nervous system. That lead to the death of many people, as well as a full generation of children with congenital anomalies. A message of struggle and hope is sent from Japan to the population in the Amazon. Alessandra and the Munduruku leaderships face the menaces from prospectors, and also that of other indigenous people. They unite in order to face the sources from this contamination, ensure the health of their children and preserve the forest.
