The Paul and Paulette’s chance meeting in a Parisian square sparks an unusual friendship between this young American photographer and the French girl, a relationship that grows around a dark game: reenacting scenes of notorious crimes from bygone eras in the places where they occurred. For Paul, the game is a way to get closer to Paulette. For Paulette, it’s a way to escape a painful breakup with her ex-girlfriend and process that trauma. As the recent past becomes more uncomfortable, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy, they find surprising joy in the darkest corners of humanity.
