Joy of Madness (2003)
Sobre o filme
A record of the filming of At Five in the Afternoon, by Samira Makhmalbaf, programmed for this 27th Mostra and the winner of the Grand Prize from the Jury at the Cannes Film Festival this year. In Autumn, 2002, in Kabul, Afghanistan, soon after the fall of the Taliban regime, film director Samira Makhmalbaf is looking for actors for her next film (on an Afghan girl who decides to run for Presidency of the country) among the locals. Hana’ camera focuses on the Afghan society and, in particular, on the aspirations of the women, the insecurity of the population at the future, and the mistrust they have for the liberty they have so recently regained. Hana is the sister of film director Samira Makhmalbaf and of scriptwriter and photographer Maysam Makhmalbaf. All three are the daughters of director and producer Moshen Makhmalbaf and Mazieh Meshkini, also a film director. Joy of Madness is Hana’ first feature, made when she was 14, and presented at the Venice Festival this year : as the youngest director to be included in the selection for the Festival
