Three stories about three women in different periods of time. The first is about Virginia Woolf herself who, in 1923, wrote Mrs Dalloway, while coping, in a struggle against crises of depression and suicidal ideas. In the second story, Laura Brown is an expectant housewife in Los Angeles, in 1949. She is planning a birthday party for her husband, but begins to read Mrs Dalloway and cannot stop reading. In the third, Clarissa Vaughn is a woman in modern New York throwing a party for author Richard, a friend and former lover who has Aids, and is dying.
