Hypnotized by the magic of the highways, Brazilian truckers cut the country from end to end carrying over one half of all of the cargo transported in Brazil. Nine hundred thousand workers are estimated to be engaged in a day-to-day struggle for survival. They traverse roads in makeshift conditions, appeal to divine protection to get by the violence of stolen cargo, constant risk of death, and consumption of “arrebite”, a remedy to keep this army awake and at the wheel for hours on end.
