Heart of Gold (2006)
Sobre o filme
Akim Abuakwa, a region in Ghana, Africa, is the site for the documentary exploring the relationship of people with gold. Traditionally considered to be possessed of a spirit as with any sensitive person, gold plays an important role in the mystical history
of Ghana. Even today, this is evident because gold is vital for the economy of Ghana and is controlled almost exclusively by multinationals. Attributing to mythology the same importance as fact, the film presents stories told by several people in Akim Abuakwa. There is, for instance, the boy who finds gold nuggets in the Brim river and is curious to know what he should do with them. With this question, he meets several persons and has some experiences with those who can clarify the spiritual relationship there still is with gold. In addition to the boy, the film includes a retired jeweler, a former public speaker, a priestess, miners, and others from the tiny town of Kibi, situated in the very heart of the region.
