Sobre o filme

An episode from the feature Cinco Vezes Favela (1963). On the eve of Carnival, little boys from the shanty town steal cats for the manufacturers of tambourines. An exercise in lyric realism, a synthesis of fiction and documentary, the film describes the love of a small boy for an Angora cat and his dilemma at having to sell his kitty. The film also includes the participation of Domingos de Oliveira (in the cast and as assistant director), and Milton Gonçalves. Future director David Neves was assistant photographer. This segment was acknowledged by the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, in France, as one of the one hundred best short films in the last years and was awarded the Prize for Quality from the Commission for Assistance to the Cinematographic Industry in Rio de Janeiro (CAIC).
