Cumbal, Caminos de Hielo Y Azufre (2006)
Sobre o filme
The subject of the documentary is life and hard work for peasants in Nariño, in the south of Colombia, who climb the Cumbal volcano for ice and sulphur to sell in the nearby towns. The subsistence of these people is based on the relationship they have with hostile nature. But the film does not dwell only on work for these people, but is also about the direction they take in their lives, their concept of beauty and of what is sacred, which is indispensable to them, the dangers they face and the sacrifice they make. Nature is the main antagonist for these protagonists. They like a simple life, are happy in day-to-day living and, especially, have a relationship of love and hate for the volcano. One of these laborers is Segundo Homero. He and his family work hard at extraction which becomes more and more difficult and less and less remunerated by the day.
