The life of eccentric Carlos Lehder Rivas, known as the Henry Ford of cocaine. At the end of 1978, Lehder, a man of 30, owner of a company and of an island in the Bahamas, returns to his native town, Armenia, in Colombia, full of ideas and of money. Many people are connected to him and are not concerned with what is common knowledge: that Lehder gets his money from drug trafficking. In spite of the general acceptance, a second sector of society does not approve of him, for the young people drawn to him by the luxury that surrounds him also engage in unlawful business. And there is a third sector of society that is even unhappier - the political sector, who view Lehder as a rich rival they cannot compete with. Lehder left Armenia at the age of fifteen and made his way to the United States where he was engaged in stealing cars and in drug traffic thereby accumulating a small fortune. He spent two years in jail. In the early eighties, he supervised shipments of cocaine to the United States in the most part originating from the so-called Medelin cartel, taking the traffic in drugs to unprecedented heights and, in this way, calling the attention of the American authorities. For this reason, he sought to hide in Armenia. Like other drug traffickers of his generation, he tries to gain entrance to politics to legitimize his fortune and prevent extradition to the United States. However, the situation is aggravated, and Lehder plunges into the clandestine. He is arrested in 1987, extradited, and sentenced to perpetual imprisonment.
