Fernando Lemos – Through the Image (2005)
Sobre o filme
Painter, designer, photographer, graphics artist, and poet, Fernando Lemos was born in Portugal in 1926 and emigrated to Brazil in 1953 to escape from the Salazar dictatorship. He has lived in São Paulo since 1954 and was a witness and participant of the revolution in contemporary Brazilian art during the second half of the twentieth century: from modernists to concretism, and down to our days. He participated in Biennial Exhibitions and was awarded a Prize for Best Designer at the V Bienal de São Paulo and Special Exhibit for Painting in the VI Bienal. The film, Fernando Lemos – Atrás da Imagem - is a survey on the life and creative process of an artist. A film crew followed Lemos around for six days in day-to-day life in his studio and at home, in the district of Butantã, São Paulo. The result is a study of his personal and political history, influences, artistic vision, and of his incredible collection of art.
