A Taste of Cherry (1996)
Sobre o filme
Awarded with the Palm d’Or at the 50th Cannes Festival, the film follows the trajectory of Mr. Badii. He’s a 50 year old man, who is driving around places in the city where unemployed people are available to do all kinds of works. Mr. Badii is trying to find someone who is willing to get in his car and earn some easy and quick money to carry out a job. A difficult job to explain and that nobody’s willing to accept. Mr. Badii talks to a lot of underground people and each one of them reacts differently to his proposal. Some of them even get in his car and listen to what he has to say, but no one seems to accept his generous offer. Mr. Baddi is looking for someone who is willing to fulfill his last wish: at dawn, someone is supposed to stand by an open grave and call his name twice; if he answers, it means he needs help, if he doesn’t, that person has to cover the grave with earth. The taste of cherry is a souvenir proposed by the only person who is willing to collaborate with Mr. Badii. His touching narration also includes the suicide topic, but it only inspires love for life.
