Greystoke, the Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1983)
Sobre o filme
"But anything can be done if you try hard enough", says Mr Hudson, summing up a main theme of his two movies as well as his own credo. ``Think of the mighty obstacles Tarzan had to overcome as he grew up. I suppose you could compare him to Harold Abrahams and Eric Liddell in Chariots : overcoming the odds, refusing to compromise, entering a society which tries to impose its own rules and laws and holding out against them. I`m very drawn to people who struggle, stand up for themselves, and don`t get diverted. I`m also very interested in people who face up to their own pain, their own loss, understand it, and learn to deal with it. That is what Tarzan does, too."
"It`s about Adam and Eve, the Garden of Eden," he says. "It`s about the loss of innocence and about the evolutionary urge. This boy is discovered by a Belgian, d`Arnot, and he`s taught language. Up to that point he`s very contented, but d`Arnot is the snake in the myth. He gives him the word, and from that point you could say he`s lost. The question is, does he have to go on to join society, or not?"
