Paula is 24 years old, from a good background, and she wants to be an actress. However, the difficult social and economic reality of Argentina makes it hard for her to attain her objectives. From one minute to the other, she loses her job and is given an ultimatum: she has 24 hours to pay her rent in arrears, or she will be evicted. She appeals to her friends, but to no avail. Her pride prevents her from asking for aid from her father and she decides she will resort to prostitution to solve the problem. "To become a prostitute is one of the worst things that can befall a woman: she is not only exploited and under assault – she also regresses socially. The story takes place in a poverty-stricken Argentina where the middle class live in degradation, impoverished, when, at one time, they were prosperous and ascendant," says the director.
