Sobre o filme

Beijing, China, 1949. Qiang is a precocious little boy, age 4, with an ungovernable temperament. When his parents register him into a kindergarten, life for Qiang is to be rich and colorful, full of play, games, and rituals intended to mold his character for life in society. But it is not easy for Qiang to adapt to this type of organization. He is individualistic and refuses to follow school regulations. His punishment is, therefore, not to receive the red flowers that are presented to all well-behaved pupils. But these and other restrictions are not enough to bend unruly Qiang. In time, his defiance and charisma start to attract his little friends. And he begins to foment small instances of rebellion such as persuading his classmates that the teacher is really a monster in disguise that devours children. But punishment meted out to him eventually plunges Qiang into ostracism. Will Qiang give in to adult imposition or will he continue to grow according to his own rules?
