December 22. Sixteen years are gone since the revolution, and it is almost Xmas time. Pisconi, an elderly pensioner, readies himself to spend Xmas Day alone. Manescu, an alcoholic history teacher, is loath to see all of his wages go to paying off debts. And Jderescu, the owner of a local television broadcasters, seems not at all interested in holidays. When Manescu comes to the rescue of Pisconi, he expects to find an answer to a question that has been troubling him now for sixteen years: did a revolution, in fact, ever take place in that town? They can remember the day Nicolae Ceausescu was driven from Bucharest, Rumania, flown out in a helicopter.
