A Dog`s Day (2001)
Sobre o filme
In up-country India, an obedient, contented village lives in harmony with the Maharajah. One day, in a sudden impetus of good will, the maharajah abdicates from power and institutes democracy in the settlement. The population commemorates with typical singing and dancing. To complete the procedings, the former governing authority presents his faithful servant Koran with a dog, Apu. Proud as they are of the present, Koran and his wife take Apu everywhere with them. Out on a walk, Apu bites a duck. On another day, the dog bites a child. Rumors that the dog is rabid lead the citizens to rebel against the former beloved leader. The quiet life in the democratic village swiftly comes to an end. The population is divided. The future of the community is uncertain. A Dog’s Day was filmed in Moncombu, a tiny village in the state of Kerala and one of the few places in India where the traditional culture of the country is still practically intact. To further emphasize an atmosphere of authenticity, director Murali Nair resorted only to non-professional actors and used traditional songs for the sound track of the film.
