A mysterious story about two magicians whose deep rivalry leads to a lengthy dispute full of obsession, swindling, and envy with dangerous, deadly consequences. Ever since Robert Angier and Alfred Borden met, when they were still apprenticed to a magician, they have always competed. Competition began in a friendly way and gradually changed to bitter rivalry, until they actually became deadly rivals. The worst of it is that they begin to threaten the lives of all those that surround them. Full of complete reversals, the film is set in London at the turn of the century. The star-studded cast includes Hugh Jackman, also present at the 30th Mostra with The Fountain, winner of two Oscars, Michael Caine, and singer David Bowie, seldom seen as an actor after films such as The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976), The Hunger (1983), and Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983).
