The confrontation between Allende`s supporters and his opponents reaches its most critical point. The population suffers from energy and food rationing, a result of the boycotts against the government. A transport strike paralyzes the country and opens the way for violence. The influence of the far-right grows over the opposition, while the contradictions of the left aggravate the crisis. Attempting to take control of the situation, Allende calls for a plebiscite for September 11, 1973. On this same day, the La Moneda Palace is bombed.
