The Return (1986)
Sobre o filme
A drama that broaches the eternal dilemma of artistic creation and, also, other universal issues such as tradition versus modernity, or creativity versus economic impositions. In this story, Shashanka, actor and playwright of the old dramatic school endeavors to engage in an artistic career in a universe where the public is interested in nothing other than vulgar dancers. The last member of a bankrupt aristocratic family, he has had to sell all, even the theater company founded by his father. He now works for the new owner of the company who brings aspiring performers from Calcutta and shows no respect whatsoever for Shashanka. In his struggle to carry on, he is alone. His wife left him some years previously, and he lives with his widowed sister in a decaying mansion that is family property. There, he also provides a home for the son of his ex-wife, a boy of seven who is to bring new life to the decrepit corridors of the old house.
