Lulu is a metal worker who loses one finger in a labor accident, is involved in protest movements and thereby discovers union life. He is divided between the temptations of a consumer society and the call of traditional left, in a radiography of the ideological deadlock of many a worker. The film was awarded the 1972 David di Donatello Prize for Best Film, in addition to the Golden Palm at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival.
