Paul, a boy of 22, lives with his mother in a small industrial town in North Carolina. He works for his uncle and has a circle of old-time friends who are fond of a brawl, amusing, and loyal. His love affairs, however, are anything but lasting, nor are they loyal. His charm has made for several broken hearts among the girls. Paul is in no way sorry for what he does to them, but his attitude concerning love changes drastically when he meets Noel, age 18, his friend Tip’ sister. Noel has spent most of her time studying away from home and, now she has graduated, returns home without any plans for the future.
