Maelström (2000)
Sobre o filme
The director Denis Villeneuve offers a surrealistic tale told by a fish (Or would be an guardian angel?). It gaves to the people a second chance, with new people who came across, who open new possibilities of changes. This is happens with Bibiane Champagne leads a care-free life. Now 25, beautiful and of good birth, she has become a young entrepreneur responsible for a network of exclusive shops. She whiles away her evenings at fashionable clubs in a world of spiced up drink and passing relationships. She is alone, and the nightclubs is her only haven. One night, after yet another bout out drinking, she causes a terrible accident and kills someone. Afterwards, she meets Evian, son of the laborer she has run over. The couple is to struggle desperately to overcome the trauma of death, to forget the mistakes of the past, and to be born once more to life. Maelström was ellected the best Canadian movie in 2000, winner of five Genie awards, a kind of local Oscar, including best movie, director, screenplay, cinematographer and actress (Marie-Joseé Croze). The film won also the prize Fipresci this year in the Berlin Festival. Maelström was produced by Roger Frappier, the same as Jesus of Montreal and The Decline of the American Empire.
