Actor Sachi Kato reaches the age of thirty in crisis. After waiting a very long time for acknowledgement for his unique acting, he finally obtains a contract to travel to Japan to teach in theater schools. He then sails to a remote island where sumo is very popular. Kuni, a young apprentice, lives there. With her mother’ death and the absence of her father who is off deep-sea fishing, Kuni goes with Sachi to a small inn and declares himself ready, full-time, so the master can teach him his trade as an actor. Sachi regards Kuni’ extreme shyness as a great obstacle to his development and begins to enquire whether it is worthwhile to continue. At the same time, young Narumi, modeling for a travel magazine, and the photographer are interested in meeting Kuni.
