Rinko is a quiet, reserved woman of some thirty years and over who works in a clinic for the mentally ill, as a counsellor, over the telephone. Shigehiko, the husband, is an important business man and the couple are comfortably well off. During the rainy season in Japan, in the month of June, Rinko receives a letter. She is being blackmailed by a former client she had once helped. According to the mysterious man, he would like to pay back the favor by helping her to "put an end to her inhibitions and make her become the person she really is". The blackmailer has photographs of her masturbating and, in exchange for the negatives, he forces her to several moves, such as wearing a miniskirt with no underpants in public and buying a vibrator over the internet. The husband finds one of the photographs and the blackmailer approaches him. He takes him to a secret club where he is witness to degrading scenes. The life of the couple gradually disintegrates.
