A group of youngsters in New York are in a loathsome underground meeting hall named Shortbus where they come face to face with comic and tragic situations involving love, music, politics, and sex. Sofia is a sex therapist who has never had an orgasm and who has pretended to her husband, Rob, for years. She meets Severin, a dominatrix who tries to help her. Sophie?s clientele include a gay couple, James and Jamie, who starts off in an open relationship with Ceth. The film suggests a means of reducing the pressure after the terrorist attacks in 2001, the better to conciliate people. The sound track is by ascending rock star Michael Hill and by the renowned avant-garde indie rock group Yo La Tengo, from New Jersey.
