Sweden today. Elisabeth is a writer who lost her husband in a car accident and finds herself alone in the world with three children. With her life devastated and in a state of deep depression, she decides to join her husband in death. She wanders off into a deserted field covered in snow, but instead of meeting her own death, she comes across a frozen body belonging to Ina - an old woman whose story takes Elisabeth back into the past. And there, she discovers that Ina was, in fact, resident in the region and lived on a farm with her bitter, violent father. Her life of hardship changes when she meets Aaron, whom she falls in love with and whose love would seem to triumph over the adversities and torment imposed by her father?s selfishness. Ina?s discovery and her life story have a profound effect on Elisabeth, and she rediscovers her own strength to try and move ahead.
