I Am Cuba (1964)
Sobre o filme
Four independent stories outline a vision of Cuba from the ousting of the Batista regime until the communist revolution. Pedro is a laborer on a sugarcane plantation who discovers, on the eve of a stupendous harvest, that the property has been sold to an American company. Enrique is a student at the University of Havana who is about to murder a policeman in the struggle against the Batista regime. Mário lives with his family in the poverty-stricken region of Sierra Maestra and has his house bombarded by the Batista forces when he is saving a wounded soldier from Fidel Castro?s forces. Maria is a prostitute who sells her body to American tourists. The film was made to order to serve as propaganda for the Castro regime. Soy Cuba was placed on file and forgotten for 30 years and only returned into circulation when it was rediscovered and restored by Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola. Today it is viewed as a masterpiece in world cinema.
