Summer Palace (2006)
Sobre o filme
Young peasant girl Yu Hong leaves her village, family and her boyfriend to study in Beijing. In the university, she discovers an intense world of sexual freedom and forbidden practices. She falls desperately in love with her student companion Zhou Wei. Driven by obsessive passion that even the couple cannot fathom, let alone control, their relationship becomes a dangerous game - involving treachery, recrimination, and provocation - when their friends begin to call out for democracy and freedom. The protests are a failure and Yu and Zhou are lost in the midst of chaos and panic-stricken crowds. Zhou is sent away to a military summer camp and, when he is released, he moves to Berlin to escape the country and his memories of Yu. She finds a job and a new boyfriend, but cannot forget Zhou. In Germany, there is also social unrest, in a struggle for freedom that is all too familiar to Zhou. When the Berlin wall falls, he returns to China. After searching for her, high and low, Zhou finds Yu in a small town. For one whole day, they place their futures before them - two souls changed in a world in transformation.
