Sobre o filme

Semi-autobiography written and directed by Jim Sheridan, the director of My Left Foot (1999) and In the Name of the Father (1993), films with 13 nominations for the Oscar, and two awards (Daniel Day Lewis, Best Actor, and Brenda Fricker, Best Supporting Actress, both in the first film). With two daughters age seven and ten, a couple, Johnny and Sarah Bolger emigrate from Ireland to New York, in pursuit of Johnny?s dream of becoming an actor. They meet Mateo, black, who right at first seems terrifying to the girls, but proves to have a heart of gold. In a short while, he has become the best friend to the Irish newcomers, still shaken by the loss of a member of the family, their only son, Frankie. All is told from the point of view of Sarah who engages in conversation with her brother, asking him for an explanation to life and help for the hardships the family must necessarily endure.
