The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006)
Sobre o filme
Ireland, 1920. Laborers in town and country join forces in an armed guerrilla to face the cruel "Black and Tan" squad sent by England to thwart any independence movements by the Irish. Imbued with a profound sense of duty and love for his country, Damien gives up his promising career as a doctor and joins his brother, Teddy, in a dangerous and bloody fight for freedom. The daring tactics of war, force the English to breaking point, and both sides agree to signing a peace treaty to put an end to bloodshed. But in spite of the apparent Irish victory, civil war breaks out and families that previously fought side by side are now pitted one against the other, facing each other as enemies and putting proof of the loyalty they had between them to test. In the sequence set in a movie theater, in which a pianist plays background music to a silent film, the pianist is Neil Brand, one of Britain’s leading silent cinema accompanist. The film was released in 105 movie theaters in the UK, a number three times greater than for any other feature by Ken Loach.
