Tico Tico No Fubá (1952)
Sobre o filme
A romanticized biography of popular composer Zequinha de Abreu (1880-1935), known for songs such as "Branca", "Aurora" and the song that gave the name to the film. A humble government employee in a little town, Zequinha is engaged to Durvalina. He is responsible for collecting municipal taxes from a circus that has recently come to town, meets horse rider Branca and falls in love with her. Branca steals a score from him and forces him to play it at night after the show, which makes his fiancée jealous. On this same occasion, he composes "Tico-Tico no Fubá". But, taken by remorse, he ends his affair and marries Durvalina. Frustrated, he begins to drink and cannot remember the music of which he has no copy. With the encouragement of his wife, he moves with the family to São Paulo to try his luck. He takes to wandering in the streets and lanes playing in one bar after another to survive. Years later, he is an old man, and he meets the love of his life again at a New Year?s party. This was the first great production of the Vera Cruz studios, a resounding box office success that launched Tônia Carrero and Anselmo Duarte to stardom. The film has been awarded prizes on countless occasions, by entities no longer in existence today such as the Saci Prize (film, producer, and scenography) and the Governor of the State of São Paulo Prize (supporting actor to Modesto de Souza, editing, and musical arrangement).
