Trilogy: the Weeping Meadow (2004)
Sobre o filme
A group of expatriate Greeks flee the advance of the Red Army in Odessa, Ukraine, in 1919. They finally settle near Thessaloniki, Greece. Among the community is a small orphan, Eleni, who is adopted by the family of another child, Alexis. The children grow up together and, eventually, fall in love. The girl gives Alexis twin boys, but the babies are given away for adoption. When Spyros, Alexis` father, is left a widower, Eleni agrees to marry him. But, even before the wedding banquet comes to an end, Eleni and Alexis run away, which is heart-breaking to Spyros. Alexis becomes a traveling musician and is soon involved in leftist political militancy, which is to bring renewed drama to the life of the couple. First part of a trilogy in which film maker Theo Angelopoulos discusses Greek roots in the 20th century.
