For the first time in many years, Takata Gou-ichi leaves the morose fishing village in which he lives and takes a bullet train headed for Tokyo. His daughter-in-law Rie, has called him to say his son Ken-ichi is seriously ill, calling for his father on his death bed. However, when Takata reaches the big city, he discovers that Rie?s words are not exactly true. Ken-ichi is indeed in a hospital bed, but refuses to talk to his father whom he had quarreled with many years previously. Takata is devastated. From Rie, he receives a tape containing the images of a video made by Ken-ichi, whose images lead him on an intense journey of self-discovery.
