Sobre o filme

The three Whitman brothers haven’t spoken in a year, but decided to take a train trip across India together. It was the idea of the oldest brother, the authoritarian Francis, who is seeking to find their mother, who had gone to live in a convent there. Without really understanding what was happening, and facing many disturbances, they try to survive between the train compartment and the adventures in the vast country, which make the trip unusual, like the incident involving a child that brings them into contact with the hospitality of a small Hindu community. The sensation of strangeness felt by those foreigners, full of particular habits, who carry Louis Vuitton by Marc Jacobs suitcases in a desolate and poor region, is reinforced by the eccentric style of Wes Anderson’s movies, with his extravagant characters, carefully made costumes and multi-colored scenes. The director uses parts of the soundtrack of the pioneering Indian moviemaker Satyajit Ray and from movies by the double James Ivory and Ismail Merchant. Before the full-length feature is shown, the short movie Hotel Chevalier, the epilogue of a love affair in a Paris hotel room and the prologue to The Darjeeling Limited will be shown.
