Johanna Perl, seven times German swimming champion, is retired and leads an isolated, lonely life. Thoughts on death and sense in living are a constant torture. Nothing is left to her in life except the memories of her victories and her daughter. But her days of apathetic inertia are counted, when a lonely hearts advertisement in the newspaper draws her attention. She arranges for a date, and it is love at first sight. Johannes is a writer and his fortune changes completely after this encounter. He manages to finish his book, You Told Me, You Love Me, that becomes a best-seller. Johanna also discovers her gift as a photographer and finally comes to terms with her deceased mother. But Johannes? success is soon a hindrance to their relationship. He draws apart from his beloved and begins an affair without realizing that Johanna is, in fact, the great love of his life. But all that happens is for some greater reason.
