Men and women of all ages in need of affection or financial assistance people the streets of sorrow. Some have mental problems, are alcoholics or chemical dependants. Others are simply people who have arrived in Portugal in search of a slightly better life. On the other side of the street are volunteers, social assistants and technicians who build and maintain support structures. Some are convinced that better days will come: others do not believe that conditions will change.
