Sobre o filme

After a long time spent in London, Sujata Rajasuriya returns to Ceylon with his daughter, Aruni. Her sister Sita, who has devoted her life to looking after the family mansion, awaits them. A symbol of the glories of the past, the house is doomed to disappear and the last illusions of a caste at the dusk of history will be gone, doomed, with the house. Around a lake where a child died tragically, the phantoms of the past return once more to bind together the strands of their destiny. Sujata will do everything possible to forestall the last act of this tragedy. The film finds free inspiration in Anton Chekov’s ‘The Cherry Orchard’. "For a long time, I thought the theme and the characters of the play pertinent, real, and that they would fit very well with the decadent aristocracy of Sri Lanka, unconscious and insensitive to the deep social changes it has not been able to grasp. What attracted me in the play was the compassion, human aspects, and, above all, the certainty that life is to continue the same, during a personal tragedy", says the director.
