He was born in Romania in 1951. With a background in literature, Ujică decided in 1990 to devote himself to cinema. He directed “Videograms of a Revolution” (1992), with Harun Farocki, which becomes a landmark film on the relationship between political power and the media in Europe at the end of the Cold War. He also directed the films “Out of the Present” (1995, 20th Mostra), “Unknown Quantity” (2005), with Paul Virilio and Svetlana Alexievitch, and “The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceausescu” (2010).
