Anna Muylaert

Born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1964. Muylaert studied film in the School of Communication and Arts at USP. She participated in the creation of television shows such as “Mundo da Lua”, “Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum” and “Um Menino Muito Maluquinho”. As a screenwriter, she worked on several television series and feature films. She directed multiple short films, such as “Rock Paulista” (1988, 12th Mostra) and “A Origem dos Bebês Segundo Kiki Cavalcanti” (1996). She made the feature films “Durval Records” (2002, 26th Mostra), “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” (2009), “Collect Call” (2012, 36th Mostra), “The Second Mother” (2015), winner of the special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival and the audience prize in the Panorama section at the Berlin International Film Festival, “Don’t Call Me Son” (2016), also awarded at the Berlinale and presented at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, and the documentary “Alvorada” (2021).
