Cao Guimaraes

Born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in 1965, Guimarães studied philosophy at Minas Gerais Federal University and holds a master degree in photographic studies in London. He explores the intersection between cinema and visual arts. His works have been exhibited in museums and galleries such as the Tate Modern, in London, the MoMA and the Museu Guggenheim, in New York. He also took part on the 25th and 27th Bienal Art Exhibitions in São Paulo. He has directed several short films, including "Aula de Anatomia" (2003), "Epilogue" (2006) and "Memory" (2008). In 2001, he directed his first feature, the documentary "The End of the Endless" (2000, 25th Mostra), in partnership with Lucas Bambozzi and Beto Magalhães. He directed other feature films, such as “Accident” (2006, 30th Mostra), presented at the Locarno, Sundance and Rotterdam festivals, “Drifter” (2007, 31st Mostra), presented at the Venice International Film Festival, and “The Man of the Crowd” (2013, 37th Mostra), presented at the Berlinale and Guadalajara Festival, where it won special jury prize and the cinematography award.
