Kauffman is a North-American director who worked as field journalist for Al Jazeera Television in the Middle East. Together with Cassigoli,  an Italian filmmaker, they directed “Butterfly” (2018), a feature length documentary that screened at IDFA and Hot Docs. In 2021, they turned to fiction with “Californie” (2021), which premiered in the Giornate degli Autori at the Venice International Film Festival, winning the Europa Cinemas Label and the BNL Award for best screenplay.
