Dea Kulumbegashvili

Born in Georgia in 1986, she is a writer and director based in Tbilisi. Her debut short film “Invisible Spaces” (2014) competed at the Cannes Film Festival, marking the first production from independent Georgia to be part of the official competition. Her second short film, “Léthé” (2016), premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight section in Cannes. Her debut feature, “Beginning” (2020), was presented at the San Sebastián International Film Festival’s main competition, where it won four awards —best film, best director, best screenplay and best actress for Ia Sukhitashvili. The film also won the critics’ award at the Toronto International Film Festival and was featured in the main slate of the New York Film Festival and the Busan International Film Festival. “April” is her second feature film.
