Born in Kerala, India, in 1935, he was a painter, cartoonist, musician, and director of film and theater. He was one of the most celebrated filmmakers in his country and a leading figure during the golden age of Malayalam cinema in the 1970s and 1980s. Over his career, he directed 13 short films and 11 feature films, which were presented at festivals around the world. Some of his notable works include “Kummatty” (1979), “Chidambaram” (1985), “Esthappan” (1980), “Oridathu” (1987), and “Vasthuhara” (1991). Aravindan passed away in 1991.
