Born in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, in 1954. A prolific Brazilian filmmaker, he began working as an assistant director and continuity director on films at Boca do Lixo, in São Paulo. His directorial debut was with “As Taras de Todos Nós” (1981), an audience success and recognized by critics. Since then, he has written and directed several features, some inspired by film noir and classics from the 1940s and 1950s, such as “Flor do Desejo” (1984), “A Dama do Cine Shangai” (1988), “Perfume de Gardênia” (1992, 18th Mostra) and “A Hora Mágica” (1998). He also made “Onde Andará Dulce Veiga?” (2007, 31st Mostra) and “A Palavra” (2019).
