Born in Tokyo in 1941, Miyazaki is the most celebrated director of animated films in his country. He worked for several Japanese studios as an animator, artistic director and producer, until he started his own company, the Ghibli Studios. His films include “Castle in the Sky” (1986), “My Neighbor Totoro” (1988), “Princess Mononoke” (1997), “Spirited Away” (2001, 27th Mostra), winner of the best animated film Oscar and the Golden Bear in Berlin; “Howl’s Moving Castle” (2004), “Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea” (2008), “The Wind Rises” (2013, 37th Mostra) and “The Boy and the Heron” (2023).
