Born in São Paulo in 1955. He was a member of the “novo cinema paulista”, generation of the 1980s. He attended scriptwriting and directing courses at the USP School of Communication and Arts between 1973 and 1976, where he directed some experimental short films. With Ícaro (Francisco) C. Martins, he directed, besides “Onda Nova”, the award-winning feature films “The Magic Eye of Love” (1982) and “Estrela Nua” (1985). He also directed “O Corpo” (1991) and “Minha Vida em Suas Mãos” (2000). José Antonio Garcia passed away in Rio de Janeiro in 2005.
