Born in France in 1983, JR is a photographer, visual artist and director. He is known for exhibiting immense collages on walls, staircases and streets in different countries. His directorial debut came with “Women Are Heroes” (2010). He is also the director of short films “Ellis” and “Les Bosquets”, both premiered in 2015. JR co-directed, alongside Agnès Varda, the documentary feature nominated for an Academy Award “Faces Places” (2017), winner of the audience award and the special critics award at the 41st Mostra. Amongst his latest work in film are the features “Chroniques de Clichy Montfermeil” (2017), co-directed with Ladj Ly, “Paper & Glue” (2021), and “Tehachapi” (2023), presented at the 47th Mostra. In 2020, he co-directed the short film “Omelia Contadina” with Alice Rohrwacher.
