Graduated in film directing from International School of Film and TV, in San Antonio de Los Baños, Cuba, and theater from Casa das Artes de Laranjeiras, in Rio de Janeiro. He is a screenwriter and director for film, theater, and TV. His filmography includes eight short films, such as “Se por Acaso” (2016), which was made under the artistic supervision of Abbas Kiarostami and premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, and “O Teu Sorriso” (2009), presented at the Venice International Film Festival. Freire also has worked in films of Ruy Guerra, Karim Aïnouz, Jonathan Nossiter, Marcelo Gomes, and Sandra Kogut. “Malu” is his feature film directorial debut.
