Born in Reykjavík, Iceland, in 1977, he graduated from the National Film School of Denmark. Rúnarsson directed the short films “The Last Farm” (2004), nominated for an Oscar, “2 Birds” (2008) and “Anna” (2009). He is also the director of the feature films “Volcano” (2011, 35th Mostra), presented at the Cannes Film Festival, “Sparrows” (2015), winner of the San Sebastián Film Festival and of the jury prize at the 39th Mostra, and “Echo” (2019, 43rd Mostra), winner of the youth jury award at the Locarno Film Festival.
