Wang Xiaoshuai

Born in China in 1965 and, in 1988, Xiaoshuai graduated at the Beijing Film Academy. He was one of the pioneers in Chinese independent cinema in the 1990s. His first feature, “The Days” (1993), was presented at the 18th Mostra and is based on the true story of his school friends. At Mostra, he also presented “Beijing Bicycle” (2000), winner of the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival, “Drifters” (2003), “Shanghai Dreams” (2005), winner of the jury prize at Cannes Film Festival, and “So Long, My Son” (2019). Among his other works are “In Love We Trust” (2007), best screenplay at Berlinale, “Chongqing Blues” (2010) and “The Hotel” (2022).
